About Stérimar Hypertonic (Congestion Relief)

What it is & how it helps

Stérimar Hypertonic is a 100% natural seawater nasal spray with a higher salt concentration than your body. That creates an 'osmotic' pull which draws excess fluid out of swollen nasal tissue to unblock a congested nose. It's enriched with copper and manganese and is drug-free, steroid-free and preservative-free, so it relieves a blocked nose without medicines.

When to use it

Reach for Hypertonic when you have:

  • A blocked or stuffy nose from a cold
  • Sinus congestion
  • A blocked nose from allergies or hay fever

Hypertonic is for short-term relief of congestion. For everyday nasal hygiene, use the Isotonic version.

Hypertonic or Isotonic: which Sterimar do you need?

Both sprays are made from natural seawater. Choose Hypertonic when your nose feels blocked or congested, and choose Isotonic for gentle everyday cleansing.

SprayBest forHow it works
Sterimar Hypertonic (this spray)A blocked or congested nose from colds, allergies or sinus issuesA higher salt concentration than the body's fluids, which Sterimar formulates to help draw moisture from the swollen nasal lining and ease a stuffy nose
Sterimar IsotonicGentle daily nasal hygiene and cleansing, suitable for all ages per the labelSeawater at a salt level close to the body's own fluids, so it rinses away dust, pollen and everyday irritants while moisturising the nasal lining

If you are not sure which one suits you, ask your pharmacist.

  5. Use 2-4 times a day for light congestion, up to 6 times for heavier congestion.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Hypertonic and Isotonic?

Hypertonic has more salt to decongest a blocked nose (short-term use); Isotonic matches the body's salt for gentle daily nasal hygiene.

Does it contain medicine or steroids?

No. It's drug-free, steroid-free and preservative-free natural seawater.

How often can I use it?

2-4 times a day for light congestion and up to 6 times for heavier congestion; it's intended for short-term use.

What are the copper and manganese for?

They're naturally added for their anti-infectious and anti-allergic properties to support you during colds and allergy flare-ups.

How is it different from a medicated decongestant spray?

It works physically through osmosis with no medicine, so it isn't associated with the rebound congestion that can follow medicated decongestant sprays.

Can children use it?

Follow the age guidance on the pack. The hypertonic formula is generally for adults and older children.

How big is the bottle?

100 ml, delivered as a fine micro-diffusion mist.

Is it FSA/HSA eligible?

Saline nasal sprays are generally FSA/HSA-eligible over-the-counter products. Check your plan if unsure.
