What these are & how they help
SoftFlex barrier rings are soft, mouldable hydrocolloid seals that sit between your skin and your ostomy wafer. You shape them by hand to fill the gaps and uneven spots around your stoma, so output can't creep underneath, the main cause of leaks and sore skin. Many people use them as a sting-free alternative to barrier paste.
When SoftFlex rings help
A barrier ring is useful when:
- The skin around your stoma is uneven, creased, or scarred
- You want a custom fit without using alcohol-based paste
- You've had output getting under your wafer
If your stoma is flush or retracted, a convex barrier ring may suit you better, and your stoma care nurse can advise.
Which Hollister barrier ring is right for you?
SoftFlex is the soft, flexible standard ring; choose a CeraRing flat ring (2-inch or 4-inch) for a firmer ceramide-infused seal on a protruding stoma, or the convex ring for a flush or retracted stoma.

How to use
- Start with clean, dry skin around your stoma.
- Stretch and mould the ring to fit the size and shape of your stoma. You can cut, bend or stack rings for the fit you need.
- Press the ring gently around the base of your stoma so it sits flush.
- Apply your wafer or pouch over the ring, smoothing outward to remove any gaps.
- Hold your hand over the area for a minute to help the seal bond.
Caring for your peristomal skin
Change your ring before it's worn through. For most people every few days, but follow how your skin feels. If you see redness or irritation that doesn't settle, check with your stoma care nurse.

These are the 7806 rings with a 4-inch (98 mm) outer size and a 1-3/16-inch starting opening, which you mould to fit.
