Waterproof means it forms a sealed barrier you can fully submerge. Those are two different things, and Hypafix comes in two different products to match.

• Hypafix fabric tape and sheets. The soft, cloth-like white tape used to hold dressings. Breathable and water resistant, so it handles a quick shower but not a soak. This is the wound-care Hypafix we stock.
• Hypafix Transparent. A clear polyurethane film made to be fully waterproof for bathing, showering, and swimming. It is a separate product, and we do not currently stock it.

So if a label or listing says Hypafix is waterproof, check which one it means. The clear film is waterproof; the white fabric tape is water resistant.

Can you shower with Hypafix?

Yes, a quick shower with the fabric tape is usually fine, as long as you keep it brief and dry the tape afterward. The fabric breathes and lets water vapor through, so a short rinse does not soak the adhesive the way a long bath would. The trick is to limit how long the tape sits under running water and to dry it properly once you are out.

Keep the showers short, point the spray away from the dressing where you can, and avoid scrubbing or rubbing directly over the tape. After the shower, pat the tape and its edges dry with a towel rather than leaving it damp. Dabbing is gentler than rubbing and is less likely to lift an edge.

Can you take a bath or swim with it?

Not with the fabric tape. A long soak in a bath, a hot tub, or a swimming pool keeps the tape under water far longer than a shower, and that will eventually work into the adhesive and loosen it. The fabric also holds water once it is fully wet, which softens the skin underneath and raises the risk of the dressing lifting.

If you specifically need to bathe or swim with a dressing covered, that is the job the waterproof Hypafix Transparent film is built for, or a dedicated waterproof dressing cover from a pharmacy. For everyday wound care that only has to survive a shower, the fabric tape is the simpler choice.

How do you keep a Hypafix dressing dry in the shower?

A few small habits keep a fabric-taped dressing in good shape through a daily shower:

• Seal the edges well. A dressing that is taped down flat, with no lifted corners, lets in far less water. Round off the tape corners so they do not catch.
• Shower last thing, change after. If you change the dressing daily, shower just before the change so any moisture that gets in does not sit there for hours.
• Add a cover for extra safety. A loose plastic wrap or a purpose-made shower cover taped above and below the dressing keeps most of the spray off.
• Pat dry straight away. Dry the tape and the skin around it as soon as you step out, so the adhesive can re-settle.
